They’re a pair of throwaway lines, but they give Lady Gaga‘s game away. Late in “Artpop” comes “Mary Jane Holland,” a song that uses pot smoke haze as a cover for what’s really bugging the star. “Lady ‘Dam won’t be a slave to the culture of the popular,” sings Gaga, before conceding that she’s not the title character, but she’d desperately like have her immunities. “I think that I could be fine/ If I could be Mary Jane Holland tonight.”
She can’t be. As Lady Gaga goes to great lengths to say elsewhere on her third album, (fourth, if you count “The Fame Monster” extended EP) popularity, notoriety, and approval are indispensable to her. Even her pillow talk has been devoured by her desire for attention — “Love me, love me, please retweet,” she begs a boyfriend in the submission anthem “G.U.Y. (G

O.J. Simpson will face at least four more years in prison after he was denied a new trial, The Associated Press reports.

LONDON — Charles Saatchi says he has no knowledge of his ex-wife Nigella Lawson ever taking drugs — days after the release of an email in which he referred to the celebrity chef as drug-addled.
Saatchi testified Friday at the fraud trial of two former personal assistants, who are accused of spending the former couple’s money on luxury goods. They deny wrongdoing.
When asked if he believed allegations Lawson was so high she allowed the assistants to spend freely, Saatchi told the court “not for a second.”
The art baron said it was a “terrible mistake” that an email he’d sent Lawson claiming she was on drugs was made public in court.
Saatchi says he has “never, never seen any evidence of Nigella taking any drug whatsoever.”
Lawson is expected to testify Wednesday.

In his final hours, Omaha’s sociable pizza man, Phil Cerra known to many as Pudgy was surrounded by people. Friends went to his home Saturday night. They stood around his bed. They poured his favorite cocktail, 7&7, and clinked their glasses, toasting him. They told Pudgy stories. They laughed at the good times. And then they said farewell. Cancer had stolen nearly all of Phil’s faculties. He couldn’t see or talk or move. But his wife, Beth, prayed that her husband could somehow hear the joviality, feel the warmth and know he was not alone. He just wanted to be loved and to love and to serve people, Beth said. He just wanted to make, in his own small way, his own small mark on the world. Phil Cerra died early Sunday in his home. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. tonight and a funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St.
