Federal judge will determine Golden Globes’ future, broadcasting rights in trial opening Tuesday
Jan 23, 2012 Entertainment News
LOS ANGELES (AP) A little more than a week after handing out Golden Globes to show business elite, members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and their longtime collaborators will begin a trial to determine which group controls broadcast rights to the popular awards ceremony.
The decision will alter the future of the glitzy gala and whether it will remain on NBC or, for the first time in 17 years, appear on another network.
If the association prevails, it may mean an end to its relationship with dick clark productions, the company that brought the Globes back to network television after a scandal threatened its future.

Will competitors chip away at ‘American Idol’ audience?
Jan 16, 2012 Entertainment News
Should “American Idol” be running scared?
Arriving in June 2002, the competition (spun off from the UK hit “Pop Idol”) hardly took TV by storm. Fewer than 10 million viewers tuned in for the premiere. But by the time Kelly Clarkson was crowned that September, viewership had surged to 23 million, and “Idol” hasn’t looked back.
For Season 2, in January 2003, more than 26 million Americans tuned in. For Season 3, in January 2004, almost 29 million. For the past six seasons, “American Idol” has been broadcast TV’s top-rated series.
Talent competitions are as old as television. But in its early years, “Idol” had the genre mainly to itself.

Jan 5, 2012 Entertainment News
(PRESS RELEASE) The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has produced its trailer for the 84th Academy Awards in conjunction with Funny Or Die. The trailer features host Billy Crystal and celebrity cameo appearances by Robin Williams, Josh Duhamel, Megan Fox, William Fichtner and Vinnie Jones.
We wanted to try something a little bit different this year instead of a traditional, clip-based piece, said Academy Chief Marketing Officer Christina Kounelias. The trailer has a fun twist that conveys how excited everyone is to have Billy back.
Crystal has one of the most distinguished track records of any host in Oscar® history. His upcoming appearance will mark his ninth turn hosting the Academy Awards.
