Lithuanian DJ & producer Donatello hits us up with a fantastic new release on Mirabilis Records – Donatello ep.
First up – Traffic is a strongly emotive track with gritty, stabbing synths and a bustling bass motif. Layered over this are intensely warped instrumentals and pads which draw you into a landscape of pure sound – Rapidly leading you toward some restless but righteous epiphany.
Like walking in slow motion through peak-time traffic on an insanely hot day, the dust, the sounds, the cars speeding past, the smells all hitting you in one hugely potent sensory explosion – Traffic is one of those thought-provoking progressive movers I will listen to again and again.
Second track on the ep Magic Secrets is another fine example of Donatellos brooding sound. Austere chord progression paired with rigidly dark undertones and varying intensity in the synths give this an underground progressive feel. The sound is lightened by top end raindrops of synth and melody. Another serious contender.
