Roads less traveled get workout

BLAIR, Neb. A stiff, plastic-coated highway map of Nebraska is getting a workout these days at the Petro Mart near the Missouri River on U.S. 30.

Travelers and long-haul truckers are detouring in record numbers through this river town north of Omaha in search of a dry route to parts north and south.

With Interstate 29 on the Iowa side of the river closed between Loveland and Council Bluffs and farther south between Hamburg, Iowa, and Rockport, Mo., and with a handful of river bridges closed motorists are turning onto roads less traveled in Nebraska and Iowa.

I have that map ready, said store manager Jody Penry on Friday.

That’s the only way to tell which way to go.

Kurt Cobain Death Marked

Gone but not forgotten, the late Kurt Cobain was remembered today as a real rock star with a rock guitar in Aberdeen, Washington State.

Aberdeen is Cobains hometown and theyve erected a giant concrete guitar that is in homage to the 17th anniversary of his death.

Music: Newswire: Stream a song from the upcoming Wu-Tang Clan album

While the reaction to Wu-Tang Clan’s last proper full-length, 2007′s8 Diagrams, wasn’t bad per se, it wasn’t great, eithereven among the people who performed on it. Wu-Tang’s Raekwon infamously called RZA a “hip-hop hippie” in his criticism of the group’s new direction.

But the new “Laced Cheeba” bodes well for the upcoming Legendary Weapons, due out July 26.

Futur Skullz’s ‘Five Year Plan’ Sounds ‘Like Robitussin’ — Song Premiere

San Francisco’s Futur Skullz feature former members of The F—ing Champs, Weakling, Drunk Horse, and Look Back and Laugh, and claim to play “metal that is punk.” We’re apt to agree with such a dead-on assessment of the particular type of racket that Futur Skullz pound out.

40th anniversary of Jim Morrison’s death

Today is the 40th anniversary of Jim Morrisons death. As lead singer of The Doors, he was one of the most iconic, charismatic and pioneering frontmen in rock music history, even though he was only 27 years old when he died.

His death was made public 2 days after he was buried at Pere Lachaise, attended by just 5 people. Now is reputedly the most-visited cemetery in the world.

His fans from all over the World are celebrating his life and his massive contribution to music. You can find concerts, tribute shows, poetry readings, different art exhibits, walking tours, practically all over the World, but most of the shows are taking place in Paris, France.
